Unlikely Companions celebrates the quiet beauty and unexpected harmony of the Louisiana bayou. A sweeping alligator glides gracefully through calm water, surrounded by blooming lotus flowers, lily pads, and soft marsh grasses, while an elegant egret perches confidently along its tail. Casey Langteau's signature palette knife technique fills the piece with remarkable texture, creating depth across every scale, petal, and ripple. The soft palette of sage greens, airy blues, and blush florals gives the artwork a peaceful presence while allowing its distinctive Southern character to shine.

Artist Statement: In this piece, the alligator becomes part of the landscape- camouflaged within layers of lily pads and soft swamp foliage, nearly disappearing into the water around it. To contrast that strength and texture, I introduced pink lotus flowers and Chinese magnolias throughout the composition. Their softness offers a gentle balance against the alligator’s rugged, sculptural surface.

Perched quietly along its tail, an egret takes a free ride through the still water- an unexpected pairing tucked into the scene. A small cameo within the camouflage, and a quiet moment of coexistence. Built up with thick palette knife texture, the surface carries movement while the softened palette keeps the piece calm and easy to live with.

Paper Print - Printed on flat fine art paper using professional giclée printers. Includes a white border for easy framing and a printed signature on the bottom right. Sizes up to 16x20 ship flat; larger prints ship rolled in a tube.

Canvas Wrap - Printed on archival gloss canvas and stretched over a 1.5” wood frame with the image wrapped around the sides. Comes ready to hang with wire and a printed signature on the bottom right.

Artist Embellished Canvas - A canvas print enhanced by the artist with thick, textured acrylic brushstrokes for a one-of-a-kind finish. Hand-signed and available with optional personalization for an added fee.

Floating Canvas Frame - While canvas wraps don’t require a frame (since the artwork continues beautifully around the edges)  adding a wooden floating frame offers a refined, modern touch. The subtle gap between the canvas and frame creates a “floating” effect that elevates the piece. Each artwork arrives ready to hang with wire installed. Frame colors are artist-selected to best complement the artwork and may vary.

Shipping - Orders ship 1–5 business days after production. If you purchase different item types, they may arrive in separate shipments.

Gallery Pickup - Select local pickup at checkout to collect your order from our gallery at 3649 Magazine Street. You’ll be emailed when it’s ready and will have 1 month to pick it up before it’s returned to inventory.

Exchange Policy: We accept exchanges or returns for store credit only within 14 days of purchase (please bring your receipt with you!). Returns for store credit come in the form of a gift card that you can use anytime within one year’s time from the date of activation.
