Keeper of The Ancient Oaks

Artist Statement: 

There are corners of New Orleans that seem to exist at their own pace, and this spot beneath the ancient oaks of City Park has always felt like one of them.

At the center of Keeper of the Ancient Oaks is Chloe, the bronze water nymph who has been part of the historic Butler Memorial Fountain since 1929, surrounded by some of City Park’s oldest live oaks.

What drew me to this scene was her gesture. With one hand extended over the garden, Chloe almost appears to be quieting the world around her- an invitation to slow down and take in what’s already there. The sprawling oaks, hanging moss, soft blooms, and filtered light all seem to follow her lead.

I wanted this painting to capture that stillness while honoring a small piece of New Orleans history- a place that has been here long before us and continues to invite us to slow down and stay awhile.

Paper Print - Printed on flat fine art paper using professional giclée printers. Includes a white border for easy framing and a printed signature on the bottom right. Sizes up to 16x20 ship flat; larger prints ship rolled in a tube.

Canvas Wrap - Printed on archival gloss canvas and stretched over a 1.5” wood frame with the image wrapped around the sides. Comes ready to hang with wire and a printed signature on the bottom right.

Artist Embellished Canvas - A canvas print enhanced by the artist with thick, textured acrylic brushstrokes for a one-of-a-kind finish. Hand-signed and available with optional personalization for an added fee.

Floating Canvas Frame - While canvas wraps don’t require a frame (since the artwork continues beautifully around the edges)  adding a wooden floating frame offers a refined, modern touch. The subtle gap between the canvas and frame creates a “floating” effect that elevates the piece. Each artwork arrives ready to hang with wire installed. Frame colors are artist-selected to best complement the artwork and may vary.

Shipping - Orders ship 1–5 business days after production. If you purchase different item types, they may arrive in separate shipments.

Gallery Pickup - Select local pickup at checkout to collect your order from our gallery at 3649 Magazine Street. You’ll be emailed when it’s ready and will have 1 month to pick it up before it’s returned to inventory.

Exchange Policy: We accept exchanges or returns for store credit only within 14 days of purchase (please bring your receipt with you!). Returns for store credit come in the form of a gift card that you can use anytime within one year’s time from the date of activation.
